Green Is In

The environmental job market has been growing or holding steady across all sectors. Growth is projected to expand at a rate 2-3% faster than many other economics sectors.

One favorable factor is the rapid growth of green or alternative economy, including organic products, recycling, alternative energy, green investments, etc. Another trend is the coming retirement of a large percentage of the current environmental and conservation workforce, critical to the management of our aging environmental infrastructure, including water and wastewater systems.

The obvious in-demand positions include environmental engineers, conservation biologists and industrial ecologists, but many green careers have roles for consultants, educators, computer programmers, research analysts, public relations specialists, and many other disciplines.

As long as you have the passion, the opportunity to utilize an increasingly broad array of skills is possible with green careers in nonprofits, government agencies, and NGOs, as well as the private industry.
